As a longtime Bruce fan, I’ve always respected the guy for sticking to his guns and stating “this is gonna be my next musical project”, yeah we all love seeing Bruce up on stage for 4 hours with the other E Streeter’s tearing through his back catalogue of albums , but as a musician the man has a lot more to offer than just that!....Western Stars” is right up there with the best them!.

This is another terrific Bruce LP, on rather fetching Blue Vinyl. Some real growers on here, particularly the title track. Shame he isn't touring this as this his thoroughly recommended

Bruce does it yet again ! Fantastic new album, ALL tracks are different style but still hold the Bruce magic. Midnight Motel is great as is The Wayfarer....cant stop listening to them all. 12'' Vinyl is also V good product - back to the old school of listening to music the proper way! Thanks Badlands / Bruce.....Tour soon !!??

I approached with caution, and wasn’t overly optimistic having heard the tracks released in advance of the album, which seemed merely “okay” as stand alone tracks, and well beneath what Bruce is capable of delivering at the height of his powers.
I also hadn’t read any other reviews, as I don’t want my first listens tainted.
There’s lovely clarity on the vocals which sit on top of the songs, with lyrics that draw you in further, and whilst it has the sound of open skies for miles, thankfully it has none of the over-produced within an inch of it’s life sound of say Working On a Dream (thanks to Brendan O’Brien not being involved I guess).
The album, like a good film, should not be taken in bite-size chunks, but taken in from start to finish.
It’s not going to trouble my top 3 of Born To Run, Darkness On The Edge Of Town, and Tunnel Of Love, but then it doesn’t pretend to want to either.
For me it’s comfortably one of his Top 10 albums, but what is unique is that it stands on its own in terms of sound, and the way the message is delivered.
The subject matter of some of the songs is not something to be taken lightly, but Bruce delivers them in a way that I personally find really uplifting.
Each to their own though.
My views on the gospel of Bruce are no secret, but I’m no sycophant either.
If its not very good - I’d say that (I’m looking at you U2/ Songs of Experience).
Give it a listen - I doubt you’ll be disappointed.
Thanks Bruce - personally, it’s just what I needed.

Superb album with a great sound. Feels like a grower of an album in that with every listen it improves. And the limited edition vinyl is really rather nice indeed.

I have followed and been a fan of Bruce's music for nearly 40 years now and this album is very different. A much more mellow feel with a very laid back semi orchestral sound. I am starting to really like it and I guess I will be playing this when I am in a slightly different musical mood.
Good service from Badlands although Royal Mail delivered it a day late. There was some slight damage to the album cover which is being replaced.
