Limited Pete Seeger 100TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION EDITION-- It only happened once, and it happened at The Bottom Line. This historic moment of song and conversation which brought Pete Seeger back to The Bottom Line for only the second time ever (the first being a May 1974 benefit for Sing Out! Magazine), occurred under the banner of In Their Own Words, an ongoing series created by Allan Pepper and Vin Scelsa - this time recorded during the 20th Anniversary Year of the beloved Greenwich Village venue.
The impact of American folk music on the international popular music scene is difficult to overstate. The Lomax/Guthrie-led revival of the 40s & 50s that projected The Kingston Trio, The Weavers, Harry Belafonte, and Pete solo, gave birth to a 1960s wave which found an audience numbering in the millions. Bob Dylan, Simon & Garfunkel, Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez and of course, The Byrds - each owed something, in part, to Pete Seeger. We invite you to join us for a very cool evening from May of 1994, recorded for posterity at The Bottom Line in New York City.
